Following a career as an illustrator in the UK, I lived in southern France (2001-2019) where I explored the creative potential of freedom from the restrictions which the demands of commercial illustration placed upon me. I completed a Masters degree in Fine Art at UWIC in Cardiff, Wales in September 2008 and my piece for the MA final show was chosen by the artist Simon Fenoulhet for review and inclusion as an MAStar on this site. During the summer of 2009, I made a raft journey of 1000 miles down the Mississippi River, from Minnesota to Memphis, Tennessee, creating ephemeral, site-specific pieces along the riverbank as I went. Subsequent to this experience, site-specific installation, and an engagement with the transient aspects of this kind of work, has become an important part of my practice. I have made several large-scale installations natural environments in UK, as well as one in USA. Two residencies (2015 and 2017) in Scotland opened up significant new directions with my environmental work. Representations of trees is currently a major preoccupation.
